Established in 1948 and still owned by the same families, we boast clientele that has been making use of our caring hospitality for more than 25 years. We pride ourselves in our large percentage of return guests that know that we take great care of them.

Vredendal Hotel forms the ideal base during flower season to enable our guests to make day-trips in and around our area to experience this amazing wonder of nature during the months of August and September. We take great pride in being able to accommodate private individuals and large groups throughout the year.

Our closest beach, Strandfontein, is approximately 45 kilometers away. Quad bike tours can be arranged in Strandfontein and from July to September whale sightings are a regular occurrence. On your way, you pass Papendorp and Ebenheazer at the mouth of the Olifantsriver. 8 Kilometers further you find the quaint little fisherman’s village of Doringbaai.

There are a number of Wine Cellars within a radius of 30 kilometers. Sporting facilities include golf courses, tennis, squash and lawn bowls. Sight seeing flips in a gyrocopter can be prebooked.

About Vredendal's early beginnings

According to tradition, Vredendal was named in the 17th century after a peace settlement between two fighting parties. This pact of peace and harmony has continued through to modern day times and is reflected in the town's atmosphere and community.

Vredendal is actually situated on part of the old Vreedensdal farm which dates back to 1748, when it was acquired by Pieter van Zyl. In 1776, the VAN ZYL HOUSE was built in typical T-shape, Cape Dutch style. This house served as the first Church, school, shop and police station, and was actually the starting point of the farming community and town of Vredendal as we know today. The 254 year old house is now a National Monument and has been beautifully restored by Johan and Christene Viljoen (nee Van Zyl)
