Vredendal is a convenient centre for exploring the whole region The town has one of the biggest wine cellars in the southern hemisphere. Here, as well as other cellars nearby, visitors can enjoy the region's award winning wines.
The buildings of Vredendal Winery towers impressively over the vineyards and buildings of Vredendal. One immediately realizes the close involvement of this cellar with the attractive town on the banks of the Olifants River, where vineyards extend along the banks of the river and under the village bridge. Today the cellar is the largest co-operative winery under one roof in South Africa. About 60 000 tons of grapes are are harvested annually and throughout the cellar endeavors to keep abreast with the latest developments in the wine industry.
Among the many interesting wines produced here are Chardonnay and Goiya Kgeisje ("First wine" in the Bushman language). The cellar also offers Hanepoort, Muscadal, Brandy and "Witblits".

Vredendal Hotel forms the ideal base during flower season to enable our guests to make day-trips in and around our area to experience this amazing wonder of nature during the months of August and September. We take great pride in being able to accommodate private individuals and large groups throughout the year.

Our closest beach, Strandfontein, is approximately 45 kilometers away. Quad bike tours can be arranged in Strandfontein and from July to September whale sightings are a regular occurance. On your way, you pass Papendorp and Ebenheazer at the mouth of the Olifantsriver. 8 Kilometers further you find the quaint little fisherman’s village of Doringbaai.

There are a number of Wine Cellars within a radius of 30 kilometers. Sporting facilities include golf courses, tennis, squash and lawn bowls. Sight seeing flips in a gyrocopter can be prebooked.

The nearby mountain ranges of Maskam and Gifberg offer hiking trails, and the Cederberg with its rock paintings and spectacular rock formations is a must.
